You have a hot new product that is flying off the shelves. Sounds like one of those good problems.
This is a problem?
Yep. One thing worse than a not having a hot seller is having hot seller you can’t make.
Most new products fail. Smart manufacturers know this and may take a wait and see approach before investing in new machinery. This may seem prudent unless the product becomes a hit. Then it becomes a scramble and a blame game as to who was not ready. Best case is that it will take you 6 months or more until you have the new machinery up and running. That’s best case. It often takes longer.
In the meantime customers can’t buy your product.
Contract packaging? They always have spare capacity lying around, don’t they? Except when they don’t and need to buy new machinery themselves. Then you are both in the same boat.
Very little packaging machinery is available from stock, it is almost always built to order. Quality Pre-Owned Machinery is one alternative. These machines already exist and may even have been running a similar product. Making the machine ready to run yours weeks or even days compared to the months it takes to build a new machine.
If you do want new machinery for the product, one way to plug the gap between need and delivery is to rent the machines you need. Renting allows you to get the machine in the plant right away, use it as long as necessary and send it back when done.
Hot new products need to be opportunities. The ability to quickly ramp up production with used or rental machinery can keep it an opportunity instead of turning into a problem. Remember, if you can’t satisfy your customer, someone else will.
When you need to go the rental or used route, be sure you go with a Quality Pre-Owned Machinery dealer such as Frain. We have over one million square feet of inventory and the support facilities and staff to service it.
