Fluid Situations

The start of NFL’s free agency period is just 7 days away.

And, the fluid circumstances of teams managing players is similar to those in the packaging and processing space managing their own machine inventory.

For example, when asked about QB Jay Cutler’s status for the upcoming season, GM, Ryan Pace, said that “Jay’s under contract, so its fluid. I would describe it as fluid.”

While the Bears may be ready to turn the page on the Cutler era in Chicago, there are likely many teams that would like to have Jay’s proven capability at QB.

CPG and packaging companies are faced with the same type of free agency on a daily basis.

Often times it takes the form of a new product or flux situation with the equipment purchase they are planning.

There’s shifting needs, less/more automation, production, and cash tied into ownership of machinery.

Companies may look to automate more, spend less by renting/leasing, or call an audible on their equipment order.

Equipment buyers may be ready to replace broken or outdated machinery or looking for equipment to fulfill a new project or increased demand.

Relying on the draft in April is also an option for NFL coaches and similarly, companies often look to new equipment.

However, successful NFL coaches also lean heavily on free agency in borrowing proven players from other teams.
