Screw compressors uses two interlocking rotating screws to compress the air. The screws take air in at one end, and as the air passes through the screws, the volume the air can occupy between the two screws is progressively reduced. Because the air cannot escape from between the screws, the pressure of the air increases as the volume between the screws decreases. These units oil-free or utilize oil.
