Portable direct-drive mixers are designed as self-contained mixing units with a drive motor, a drive shaft, and an agitator. Portable mixers are designed to be mounted on vessels such as a tank or kettle to provide permanent or temporary agitation. Portable mixers can be used to dissolve solids, suspend solids, absorb gases, disperse gases, emulsify, blend, and mix. Portable mixers can be clamp mount, fixed mount, air drive, side entering, and open tank fixed mount. Portable mixers can be outfitted with different length mixing shafts and different types of agitation. The most common type of agitation for a portable mixer is a 3-blade propeller-type agitator.
