Electronic counters use a photo-electric eye to sense pills or tablets dropping through a funnel (as the product drops through, it breaks the photo-electric eye beam which the counter records as another pill). The pills or tablets are sorted and dropped through the funnel one at a time using a small rotary disc. The pills or tablets drop through the funnel into a container. Once the counter reaches the pill count preset, the machine will stop the rotating disc which then stops pills from dropping into the funnel. An automatic electric counter machine will release the current filled container and index into a new one, while a semi-automatic electric counter machine will wait for an operator to change containers.
