Positive Machines

Positive displacement pumps utilize two counter-rotating lobes (driven by a common drive) to push product through. The product fills the space between the lobes and as the lobes rotate, the product is trapped between the rotating lobes and the interior of the pump’s head casing thereby moving the product forward. As the product reaches the discharge side of the pump, a lobe from the other half of the pump perfectly interlocks in the space between the lobes which displaces (positive displacement) the liquid that was between the lobes out of the pump. All increasing efficiency, these types of pumps include rotary, reciprocating, curve, small, vacuum, oil and animation pumps from manufacturers such as Waukesha.

Positive displacement pumps are rated for speed in product per minute (typically ranging from 1 – 300 gallons per minute depending on materials, application and machine configuration) and working pressure or psi.  They are usually capable operating both clockwise, or counter clockwise – and equipped with a spring loaded internal bypass pressure valve vented cover.
