A Coder Laser machine uses a laser to etch (burn) a very shallow code into the surface of a product. (The etch is so shallow that laser coding has been used to apply codes to fruit and vegetable.) Coder lasers change the code characters by changing the code to be imprinted in the electronic control panel.
